GREAT KISS AKA “GOOSE”

During the short 3 years that Goose raced on the Louisiana racetracks he brought in almost $43,000. He was then sold at auction and through no fault of his own ended up in the hands of a LA kill buyer. Goose finally arrived at his new home here at Athletes 4 Life in February 2018. Despite his body full of fluffy hair he was hundreds of pounds underweight at a Henneke body scale of 2. He also suffered cellulitis and rain rot. Despite his previous neglect, Goose is an “in your pocket” bomb proof horse who is sweeter than molasses. We rehabilitated Goose back to health for 6 months and he currently loves trail rides as well as allowing children and first time riders experience the joy of being horseback. He is hopeful to start his new career with Athletes 4 Life in the hunter jumper and dressage disciples as well as equine therapy.

Dealers Etbauer aka “Maverick”

After earning almost $34,000 in his short 4 year career on the Louisiana Racetracks, Maverick was sold at auction and through no fault of his own ended up in a LA kill pen. After being starved and neglected Maverick finally made his way to his new home here at Athletes 4 Life in October 2018. When Maverick got to us he was a 1 on the Henneke horse body condition scoring system, putting him hundreds of pounds underweight, he had a high fever that lasted for weeks, ulcers throughout his entire mouth and body, rain rot, mud fever, cellulitis, injured front leg, flat feet, extremely thin soles of his hooves, and abscesses in both front feet. Despite all of his past neglect and trauma Maverick is still as sweet as they come. Maverick sustained an injury to his hock in June of 2019 which put him once again fighting for his life. He was in the hospital for 22 days where he had multiple surgeries to heal the injury and infection. once he was finally able to come back home to us he was put on 5 months of stall rest, daily bandage changes pain medications and antibiotics. We are extremely proud to say that as of November 2019 Mavericks injury is completely healed and he is off to an amazing start as we were finally able to put a saddle on him and he loved it. He is currently enjoying trail rides and is hopeful to start a new career with Athletes 4 Life in the hunter jumper or eventing discipline as well as equine therapy.
